1. Before You Come to Wheaton College… …a look at some of the things you need to know when you are a part of the modular program

2. For Your Information • It is to your benefit to be proactive by seeking information from appropriate offices. • Be sure to access the website for more information about information beyond what this brief overview will give you.

3. Who Do I Contact? • You will have been working with a Graduate Admissions counselor through the application process. • Your counselor can help you with logistical questions prior to the first time you come to campus.

4. Planning your course program • Either a faculty or department advisor will help you plan your entire 40-hour program according to your chosen time frame. • Keep this planning schedule or worksheet as a reference for when you discuss your courses with your advisor.

5. Computer Accounts • Be sure to set up your computer account BEFORE coming to campus for your intensive classes. • If you are a new student and need to set up your account for the first time, please go to http://www.wheaton.edu/newaccounts/student • If your password has expired or you cannot remember your password, please go to http://lostpass.wheaton.edu • If you need help with your computer account, please call 630-752-4357. The computing services office is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm M-F.

7. Registration (cont) • Registration for Continuing Students • After you email your advisor with courses you plan to take for the next semester, your advisor will give you an alternative pin number so that you can register online through my.wheaton.edu portal.

9. How do I register? • 1) Go to http://my.wheaton.edu • 2) Type in your ID and password • 3) Find and click on the tab labeled “Student” near the top of the page • 4) Click on “Add or Drop Classes” • From there you can choose a semester and then type in your pin number (which is given to you by your advisor) to register online. • If you would like to register via fax please refer to or contact the registrar’s office at: 630-752-5044.

How do I check to see if there are any holds on my registration status? • 1) Go to http://my.wheaton.edu • 2) Login with your ID and password • 3) Click on the “Student” tab • 4) Under “Registration Tools,” click “Registration Status.” • 5) Choose which term or semester you would like to view. • 6) Any holds you have will appear at the top of the page.

11. How do I access grades? • 1) Go to http://my.wheaton.edu • 2) Login with your ID and password • 3) Click on the “Student” tab • 4) Under “Student Grades,” select the semester or term you would like to view. • 5) Your grades will appear in that box.

12. Blackboard • What is it? • Where is it located? • How do I make sure it works with my computer? • How do I download power points or other documents from Blackboard? • Where do I get help and instructions?

13. What is Blackboard? • Blackboard is a program that the college uses to allow communication between professors and students concerning course work and assignments. • This is a database where professors can load power points, documents, PDFs, videos, and other resources and assignments for students to download to their own computer.

14. Where is Blackboard located? • It is accessed through the my.wheaton.edu portal. • 1) Go to http://my.wheaton.edu • 2) Login with your ID and password • 3) Click on the Blackboard icon in the top right-hand corner.

15. How do I make sure Blackboard works with my computer? • Once you are in Blackboard, click on the link entitled “Browser Check” in the top right-hand corner of the screen. • Follow the instructions. • Click on any “red x” areas or areas that require action from the pop-up menu. • If changes are needed, you may want to restart your browser window.

16. How do I download power points or other documents from Blackboard? • From the course list, click which class you would like to view from the list on the page. • Next, click on the document you would like to open. • Click “OK,” and it will open in the program you chose. • You may now print it or save it to your computer.

19. Housing • Summer Housing • You actually stay here on campus. • 2 bedroom apartments (two - four people per apartment) offered at a nightly rate • Apartments furnished with sofa, chairs, kitchen table, 4 bunk beds, stove, and microwave • NO pots, pans or silverware included • NO linens included, however we provide linens for a rental fee or $10.00 • There is a phone, but you need to purchase a phone card to make calls off-campus • Please email the Modular Student Coordinator and he or she will send you the housing form. Then after you fill it out, return it to the Modular Student Coordinator.

Housing (cont) • Fall/Spring Housing • Contact the Modular Student Coordinator for a list of places to stay in the area.—Jen this is duplicated in line 2 below. • There are a limited number of homes in the community that rent rooms for approximately $25-$35 dollars a day. The Modular Student Coordinator can provide you with this list.

21. Meals • Summer Semester • For those students staying in campus housing, you can either prepare limited meals in your apartment or purchase meals in the dining room. • The dining room offers an all you can eat buffet for about $15 a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on weekdays only. There are no weekend meals available.

22. Meals (cont) • Fall/Spring Semester • If you are renting a room off campus, you may have kitchen privileges or utilize the dining hall on campus.

23. Insurance • All Wheaton College Students must have medical insurance. • International (including those from Canada) modular students must purchase insurance through graduate student services. 24. Parking and ID Cards • Students should plan to pick up their ID cards and provide parking information before you come to class on the first morning. The office opens at 8:00 AM. • Parking is $1/day or $5/week. If you need to park for more than one week, please contact the parking office at 630-752-5558 or dawn.t.mcdonald@wheaton.edu. • The student ID allows you entrance into the Student Recreation Center and access to books from both Buswell and BGC Library.

25. Parking and ID Pick Up • Students can pick up their IDs and turn in their parking information at the Chase Service Center off of College Ave. See map below.

26. Questions and Answers • What if I miss a semester? What happens? • The registrar designates you inactive, therefore the next semester you cannot register online. • You must go to: http://wheaton.edu/Academics/Departments/INTR/Evangelism-Leadership/Program-Options/~/media/Files/Academics/Departments/Intercultural-Studies/Department-and-Campus-Information/Non-Degree_Registration_form.pdf • You need to fill out and return the form to Graduate Student Services via fax (630-752-5935) or scanned document.

Questions and Answers • How am I billed for modular courses? • This applies to intensives ONLY. • The fall term is billed at the end of September. • Bill is due the last day of October. • The spring term is billed at the end of January. • Bill is due at the end of February. • The summer term is billed at the end of May. • Bill is due the last day of June. • Summer classes are offered at a reduced rate compared to other semester classes.
