  5. Transcript This transcript is a very important document about you! Note: In the college admissions process, your final grades from 9th, 10th, and 11th grade are very important. However, many schools will also look at your course selection and academic performance in your senior year. Please check your transcript for errors…drop off in the North counseling office.

  6. Making up Credits • Do you have courses to make up because you failed them? • Remedial courses – cost involved • ASC – after or during school hours - free • 3. Retake the course in 12th grade….Free • You should have between 16-19 credits at the end of this year. • Please see your counselor if you have concerns.

  7. Graduation Project (GP) All students in 11th or 12th grade must do a graduation project! Three Ways to Register for a Graduation Project: 1. Complete in 12th grade English class. 2. Enroll in a project course and do a project. (GP courses are identified with a cap and diploma in the course selection guide). 3. Make independent arrangements with a teacher/counselor to do a Graduation project.

  8. Community Service • All students must have 20 hours by the time they graduate. • Forms can be found in the counseling office. • Forms on the High School Web Page…click on academics and then on community service. • PLEASE TURN IN YOUR FORMS AS YOU COMPLETE YOUR HOURS

  9. 12th Grade Courses English Year long options: • English 12 • CP English 12 • AP English Literature and Composition There is no Advanced English 12

  10. Semester long English options: pick two Semester English Options: (pick two) • College Writing • Film and Media Studies* • Modern Classics • Science Fiction/Fantasy Literature • Speech & Debate* • Creative writing, Journalism, Intro To Theater, Power Reading and Acad. Strategies do not count toward the required English graduation credits * not NCAA approved

  11. 12th Grade Social Studies Pick Two • Business Law • Current Issues • Economics/Advanced Economics • AP Government and Politics • AP Comparative Govt. • AP Early/Recent Euro History • Democracy In Action • Intro to Sociology • Psychology/ AP Psychology • Advanced Readings/Writings • (Personal Finance does not count unless taken before the 2012-2013 school year) • Pick two half credit courses

  12. Physical Education12th Grade -Selective Physical Education -Wake Up State High (7:00-7:40 am) -Fitness and Exercise Science -PE by appointment Applications due May 1 Limited spaces

  13. Health Education • You need to take Junior/Senior Wellness if you haven’t already • In-class Driver’s Safety is also required for graduation

  14. WorldLanguages • Arabic, French, Latin, Spanish, German • 2 Years of same language for PSU • Some highly-selective schools – 4 years • Arabic • ALL levels should sign up for Arabic 1 • good for Military, Government, Business, Engineering • Chinese 1, 2 and 3 • offered through LE contract during 5th period for 3 days/week

  15. ScienceOnly 3 Required for Graduation 4th good idea for technical majors • Physics Options – must be taking precalc or calculus • Physics • Adv. Physics/Adv. Engineering Tech. • AP Physics B • Prerequisite: 2 Adv sciences

MathOnly 3 Required for Graduation 4th good idea for college-bound students • Note: If you are in the College Prep Math or Foundations Math you MUST sign up for the next level of math. • If you are in College Prep Math and plan to go to PSU for Engineering, Business or IST, you must take: • College Prep Math 4 AND Functions and Trig or • Functions and Trig

  18. Learning Enrichment • You need to complete a contract with one of the LE teachers by May 1, 2013. • There is an important meeting for parents to attend this spring. • Your LE contract will be revoked if you receive any D’s on your report card.

  19. Cooperative Work Experience • Work 15 hours per week minimum • Leave school early - 2 or 3 periods • Sign up for in-class Y690 Capstone (1 credit) and Y692 CWE Diversified Occupations (2 credits) or CWE in your CTC area • CTC Example: Building Contruction Student • Y690 Capstone 1 credit and Y655 CWE Building Construction 2 credits

  20. SAT’s • Don’t forget to take the SAT’s at least once, if not twice, before the end of your junior year!!!!!! (March, May or June)

  21. Final Notes about 2013-14 Registration -Registration window open Feb. 4th - Mar 4th scasd.org/courserequests -You must fill out a COURSE REQUEST CHANGE FORM for locked courses.
