The future of ABM from Posiva point of view Kari Koskinen, Petri Korkeakoski Koskinen Kari
General objectives • Argument why the clays we intend to use are applicable … • Delay in migration of solutes due to low hydraulic conductivity • High swelling pressure • Plasticity / deformability • … in (our) repository conditions. • in terms of groundwater composition • temperature of the near-field Koskinen Kari
Objectives for ABM/LOT • Measurements of hydraulic conductivity, swelling pressure and plasticity • measurements should be justified • apperances outside the measured range of conditions should be reasoned • Changes of clay properties could be due to • changes in exchangable cations, • dissolution and precipitation of accessory minerals, • changes in montmorillonite surface charge, • changes in microstructure • Arguments derived from the first principles remain ahead of our capabilities • systematically generated experimental data remains essential Koskinen Kari
Aspects influencing on tests dismantling • Construction license application (CLA) • Submission at the end of 2012 • No new material to CLA • Operation license application (OLA) • Submission at the end of 2018 • Investigations should be reported during 2018 • New material would be needed • Dismantling of tests? • Possibility for development of tests? • Development in terms of more realistic repository conditions … being more applicable for OLA Koskinen Kari
