Course Selection for 9th Graders is based on: • Teacher recommendations • Credits needed • 42 periods per cycle • Elective Choices Course Selection
Recommendations • Teachers base their recommendations on in class performance • After verification sheets are sent home, parents who would like to request a level change must initiate communication with the teacher and/or counselor Course Selection
Course Levels • 6.0 (HP) High Potential: For students who have a solid command of the basic skills. • 6.0 (H) Honors: For students who have a strong command of the basic skills. • 5.0 For students who have a good command of the basic skills. Course Selection
Course Card Requirements 9th grade schedule consists of 42 periods • English +6 periods • Social Studies +6 periods • Math +6 periods • Science +6 periods • Phys. Ed. +2 periods • Health +2 periods • Computer App III +2 periods • 1 or 2 Elective Majors +6-12 periods • (+12 for NMTCC) • 0-3 Elective Minors +0-6 periods *Must have 42 periods scheduled*

Credits • 6 periods/cycle = 1.0 credit • 4 periods/cycle = 0.7 credit • 2 periods/cycle = 0.3 credit • 7 credits is the maximum possible for 9th grade • 4 credits are required to achieve 10 grade status • Students who fail a class are advised to enroll in summer school for remediation and credit recovery. Graduation Credits • To graduate from NPHS, a student needs: • 4 credits in English • 4 credits in Social Studies • 3 (or 4) credits in Math • 3 (or 4) credits in Science • 2 credits in Arts and Humanities • 1.2 credits of Physical Education • 0.9 credits of Health • 3.9 credits of Electives Minimum TOTAL of 23 credits in grades 9-12 Course Selection
Graduation Requirements • Additionally, a NPHS student must: • Demonstrate proficiency in English Composition, Literature, Algebra 1, and Biology on Keystone Exams (p. 5) • ** A tiered-intervention program will be in place for students who need support to reach Keystone proficiency. Class Rank and GPA • Class Rank combines grades and course levels to determine a weighted GPA (Grade Point Average) • Class rank is computed at the end of each year in 9th, 10th and 11th grades • Maintaining A’s and B’s in appropriately challenging levels is important in class rank and GPA See page 7 in Program of Studies Course Selection

NMTCC Schedule • Some NMTCC students will be at Pennfieldfor periods 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8. They will attend NMTCC and eat lunch during periods 3, 4 and 5. • NMTCC students with reading and/or math intervention needs will be at North Penn High School for 3 periods, followed by NMTCC and Pennfield at the end of the day. *Enrollment Forms should be returned to Guidance Course Selection

Summer Leadership School • July 8-12th: Open to all 8th-12th grades • Leadership Exercises and Challenges • McGuire Air Force Base Trip (Aircraft, Battlefield Simulators) • Interactive games at Laser Quest and Guppy Gulch Water Park • Obstacle Courses with the Pennsylvania National Guard at their Training Complex • More details, to include sign-ups in March
