How do I attain junior status? • Must earn 9 credits by the start of the 2011-12 school year • Know how many credits have you attained after 3 semesters-review your transcript • Pass your classes second semester-earn additional credits • Consider summer school opportunities to make up credit (2011/2012 credit recovery will be pass/fail) • Senior Status = 15 credits • Graduation = 21 credits minimum
What information is on my high school transcript? • Identification information • Course history for each grade in high school • Final grades • Mid year grades • Grade Point Averages • Weighted (QPA) • Unweighted (GPA) • Class Rank • Credits Earned • Standardized Test Scores • EOG from 8th grade • EOC Exit Standard scores • Other EOC scores • Attendance for each grade in high school

EOC’s • EOC’s are worth 25% of your final grade and are applicable to the following classes: English 1 Geometry Algebra 1 Chemistry Civics & Economics Biology US History Algebra 2 • If you do not successfully score a level 3 or higher on these exams, you will be required to retake them.
The New Modified Block Schedule Starting with the 2011-2012 school year, all WSFC schools will use the same modified block schedule Mainly 90 minute, 4X4 block format Specific classes on A Day/B Day, yearlong format Take 8 classes per year, typically 4 per semester Offers you more choices and flexibility in your schedule!

WS/FCS Course Guiding Principles • Students will be assigned to the most rigorous and challenging courses based on previous EOG and EOC test scores and grades • Students and Parents should discuss course options with current teachers • Students and Parents choose all courses and course levels • Course Assignments will be written on your registration card • Course Choice Request form will be attached to your registration card
Why is there a deadline for changing course requests? May I change my course requests after the deadline (April 21st)? ONLY IF: • You need other course to meet graduation requirements • You fail a prerequisite course • You complete a course in summer school • You have selected a course that will not be offered due to low enrollment

How do I earn college credit by taking AP courses? • Take the AP exam and score 3-5 • Check AP credit policy by college/university (www.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy) • Students pay for first three AP exams each school year (about $87.00 per exam) • AP Exam Fee Reduction available to qualifiers • If students do not take the exam, their final course grade will be reduced by one letter grade

When can I access bus transportation to and from the Career Center? • The transportation schedule for the Career Center has not yet been determined. You will be contacted when more information is available. Students who need bus transportation typically need to take 3 class periods at the Career Center. • Talk with your parent about what transportation needs you may have next year and share them with your counselor during your registration meeting.
Where is the Career Center? NEW address beginning Fall 2011 910 Highland Court Winston Salem, NC 27101 Students who drive themselves will be required to have a Career Center parking permit. More details to come.
