Registration Process February: Complete your registration for senior classes: Due February 16th in the counseling office REMEMBER-you must graduate on the Recommended Plan to be admitted to a Texas four-year college/university Senior year course selections should maintain rigor and electives should display your areas of interest.

    5. When Do I Begin? February: Learn about the types of colleges/universities Public: non-profit institution funded by tuition, donations, grants, state and federal tax dollars Private: non-profit institution funded by tuition, donations, and grant money

    6. When Do I Begin? February: Prioritize your college/university preferences Use college search tools to find schools that meet your needs Geographical location Small, medium, large Major/Academic Interest Two year schools versus four year schools In state versus out of state

    7. When Do I Begin? Develop your preliminary list of approximately 5 schools Make arrangements to attend Preview Days at your prospective colleges/universities and/or attend college fairs: 1 day during Junior Year & 2 days during Senior year Register for the April 9th or June 11th ACT: check registration deadlines www.act.org Register for the May 7th or June 4th SAT: check registration deadlines www.collegeboard.com

ACT vs SAT made up of four equal parts: reading, math, English & science & optional writing if you struggle with math, the ACT may be a better option not penalized for incorrect answers made up of three parts: math, reading, and writing if strong in math, this may be a good option penalize ź point for each incorrect answer

April: If you are planning to play college level athletics you should complete the registration information for NCAA Eligibility Center www.eligibilitycenter.org Take the April or June ACT and/or SAT Prepare for AP exams in order to achieve high scores and earn college credit Attend Preview Days at prospective schools EVERY CAMPUS HAS A “PERSONALITY”

May - July: Complete ACT/SAT exams Make arrangements for private visits Be sure to take a campus tour Use your “Campus Checklist” www.collegeboard.com Take advantage of volunteering opportunities – looks good on your college application and keep a file of community service and leadership activities Save essays that you might be able to reuse

    18. Senior Year: Now What? August: Begin your senior year (FINALLY) Register for the September ACT or SAT if desired or necessary Begin to narrow your prospective college/university list to three to five schools Always include a backup school close to your home

September: Attend NorTex College Fair at UNT Register for the November/December ACT and/or SAT exams if desired or needed Begin completing your college applications www.applytexas.org Order your transcript – takes five to 10 days to process Get acquainted with admissions counselors on the colleges that you are considering to ask specific questions relating to that college regarding admissions and other questions of concern or interest.
