Four Goals • Kids in seats: all kids at all schools will be in seats all day • Reduce unexcused absences toward zero over the next five years, so that the number of habitually truant students will be 2% or less. • Leveraging community resources to create diverse learning opportunities for students including service learning and vocational programs • Develop innovative learning opportunities for students • Begin process to match students’ interests and needs with community resources • Empowering parents to be engaged in student success by providing increased two-way communication, training, and support • Focus on transitions from elementary to middle and from middle to high school • Increase number of adult mentors for students other than a parent • Provide appropriate and constructive support and guidance
Next steps • Take feedback from today to refine our work and revise priorities if needed • Create additional action items for each goal • Identify resources • Adjust timeline • Finalize plan for implementation

Goal #4 Increase opportunities for cultivating adult mentor relationships • Develop mentor outreach program to train, vet and coordinate mentors • Partner with organizations already similar work i.e. LANL Community Programs Office, & Volunteer Match • Reach out to students through athletics, school clubs, community clubs, activity centers, teen center, and libraries • Look to replicate existing models such as Michelangelo’s lunch program for at risk boys at the MS
