The strategy that’s worked for us … Our 4-step implementation process: Planning – goal setting Training Communicating Ongoing engagement and staff support
Develop advocates at all levels … Our Yambassadors
National Office goals … • High level goals • Engage staff in our mission, vision, goals and achievements • Increase collaboration and communication among departments • Increase efficiency in work processes • Create social intranet at our National Office – and nationwide intranet in the longer term • Launch informal staff recognition program • Build and increase staff’s social networking and collaboration skills • Provide staff with the information they need to be effective in their roles • Departmental goals • Each department developed effective ways/goals for how to use Yammer for their projects
Training your staff … • Effective training tactics: • Train your advocates • Include staff training as part of your launch and ongoing engagement strategies – train and then train more • Present training that’s interactive and supportive • Develop training tools that reflect the social media skill levels of your staff • Create a self-serve training resource hub – 101 group full of resources • Promote examples of what’s worked via Yammer • Show staff how to socialize current processes and tactics
What we’re measuring … • Results from staff survey that measure staff engagement and views on effectiveness of internal social tool(s) • Yammer analytics – similar to Facebook insights • Metrics set by each department or team to gauge if they’re achieving their goals for Yammer
Our successes … • Informal staff recognition program • Over 100 ‘thumbs up’ given on National Office Yammer network since February 2013 • Staff participation on Yammer • For past 7 months over 80% of National Office staff consistently engaged via Yammer • Departmental goals • All departments at the National Office used Yammer to achieve their goals over past 7 months • Organizational buy in • Secured budget in next fiscal year to build nationwide intranet that integrates Yammer and SharePoint • Senior management approved implementing guidelines to limit all staff emails • Launched nationwide Yammer network • Improved communication and collaboration among key nationwide teams
Managing your internal social network … • Tips and best practices: • Develop, promote and implement guidelines for network • Create a content calendar for key communications • Monitor staff engagement with content posted to network – keep doing what works, stop what doesn’t, try new things • Designate a community manager(s) for your network • Get your advocates helping with community management • Be positive, empathetic and diplomatic – staff take time to catch on and communities take time to develop • Keep on training • Stay calm and Yammer on!
