Location of the Tundra • The tundra biome is located in the artic circle. • The artic circle surrounds the North • Pole.
The Temperatures and Precipitation of the Tundra Precipitation Temperature • The temperature in the summer is 37-54⁰F. • The temperature In the winter can Reach -50⁰F. • The two types of precipitation they have in the tundra are rain and snow. • They have less than 10 inches of rain each year. • In all they have 10-40 cm of precipitation.
Animals of the Tundra • The artic fox has smaller ears and a smaller tail to help preserve heat. • The artic fox also grows a thick fur coat to keep its body warmer. • The polar bear hibernates in the worst parts of the winter to decrease their energy loss. • The Polar bear also grows a thick coat in winter.
A Tundra Plant • The lichens that live in the harsh permafrost soil usually ADAPT to the weather by being short and grouped together. • The lichens also use very little energy.
Human influence • This picture shows an oil plant. People are moving into the tundra and building new things and animal are having troubles finding food. People are also destroying habitats by mining and digging for oil.
Fun Facts • The longest plant is as long as your finger. • The word tundra means “treeless pain.” • Almost twenty percent of the Earth’s land surface is tundra.
