MUST BE THE MONEY • Nike’s engineers continued to develop new products • CEO Mark Parker contacted close friend and CEO Steve Jobs • Both saw the connection between running and music and wanted to used this connection to create a new community • Target Market initially casual runners, not experts • Goal: Increase the number of runners/iTunes users • Effect: Increase the number of miles run/ songs sold • Result: increase in revenue
GROWTH NIKE+ is BORN • Nike researchers developed Nike+ • It was a collaboration between Nike and Apple • Originally a simple sensor and iPod kit that contained: • iPod • Wireless chip • Nike shoes to put chip in • iTunes membership • The kit would store information such as time, distance, pace, and calories burned -Nike+ continued to expand -Sportband Kit -Eliminated the need for an external receiver -No longer need an iPod -5 million users
