  1. Gold striker iphone £1.9million Berluti Shoes £1500 What’s the connection? Bugatti Veyron £810,000

  2. Can you work out what today’s animation workshop is going to cover/why?

  3. Today’s workshop question: How do animators make hand drawn animations? Lesson 1: learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation Lesson 2: apply skills to create a short animation sequence of your own design

  4. Lesson 1

  5. An example of a hand drawn animation

  6. How does this work? What did Blender do once we had key framed these positions on the timeline? TWEENS (the movements in between) Key frame Start position Key frame End position

  7. Activity 1: individual 12mins Number all A4 sheets in your pack. Number 1 (the stickman) and 6 are your keyframes so put an * or the word keyframe next to the number. Decide on what your character will be doing in frame 6 (this is very similar to the poses you made in Blender). Draw this into the box on the worksheet for reference. Draw in the ‘tweens’ in boxes 2, 3, 4, and 5 on the worksheet. These are the movements ‘in between’ the keyframes. learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation

  8. Activity 2: individual 10mins Using your worksheet as a guide you are now ready to draw the animation sequence onto A4. Place A4 sheet number 2, over number 1 (the stickman) and trace - but draw limbs exactly as you have done on your worksheet. Repeat the process until you have a complete set. Sheet 2 over 1 3 over 2 4 over 3 5 over 4 6 over 5 learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation

  9. Activity 3: Pairs 20mins Carefully photograph each of your A4 sheets in sequence (try to make sure the camera is in the same place for each shot) Import into the computer and use movie maker to create the animation sequence (this is the same process as the stop motion advert you created) Export the sequence so that you have evidence of your activities (finish movie, save to my computer etc). learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation

  10. Blog: How do animators make hand drawn animations? In your blog today describe the process of creating your hand drawn animation. Try to break this down into three basic steps that someone else could understand.

  11. Lesson 2

  12. Today’s workshop focus: Can you apply skills learnt last lesson to create an animation sequence of your own? Lesson 1: plan out (pre production) an idea for a hand drawn animation. Produce your idea, realising your intentions. Lesson 2: Post production and render your animation

  13. Activity 1: 20 mins In a group decide on a hand drawn animation sequence that you would like to create (it doesn’t have to be a stickman). Plan out your idea and break the sequence up into parts (so that you will each animate part of the sequence). Remember to apply the basic principles of tweens and keyframes. learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation

  14. Blog: How do animators make hand drawn animations? In your blog for this lesson describe the pros and cons of hand drawn animation; what do you think? learn the basic skills of hand drawn animation
