WHAT IS THE PERSONAL PROJECT? • The result of a self-directed inquiry within a global context • Shouldbebasedaroundthetopicthatmotivatesyou • Shouldreflectthedevelopment of the ATL skills, attitudes and knowledge acquired in the MYP • Shouldresult in responsible action through, or as a result of learning • IB requirement for all MYP students in year 5

A PRODUCT OR OUTCOME • an original work of art-piece of creativewriting, a sculpture, a musicpiece , a song, • a model • a business plan e.g. How to help Croatia getout of therecession? • a campaign • a blueprint or architecturaldrawing • anessay • a course of studye.g.How to play a trumpetin 4 months? How to learnJapanese in 3 months? • a debate • a film/video • etc.

COMPLETING THE PERSONAL PROJECT • select a topic of personal interest • document the process in the Process Journal • focus the personal project through ONE global context • structure the personal project report according to the information provided in theguide • respect word or time limits for the report • fulfil ethical and academic honesty requirements

What is processjournal?A documentwhereyou: •documentthe planning and the development of the project, • keepuseful information (photos, quotes, comments, notes, mind-maps, ideas, etc.) • recordtheinteractions with sources, for example, teachers, supervisors, etc. • explore ideas and solutions • record resourcesanresearchand maintain a bibliography • reflect on stages of the project and demonstrate your reflection on learning • evaluate completed work It is NOT a diary used on daily basis with detailed writing about what was done. Itcanbebe written,visual, audio or a combination of these and might include both paper and electronic formats.

  8. IDENTIFYING THE GLOBAL CONTEXT OF THE PP • What do I want to achieve through my personal project? • What do I want others to understand through my work? • What impact do I want my project to have? • How can a specific context give greater purpose to my project?

  9. GLOBAL CONTEXTS • Identities and Relationships-Who am I ? Who are we? • Orientationin Space and Time-What is the meaning of ‘when’ and ‘where’? • Personaland CulturalExpression-What is the nature and purpose of creativeexpression?

  10. GLOBAL CONTEXTS continued • Scientificand TechnicalInnovation-How do we understand the worlds in which we live? • Globalizationand Sustainability-How is everything connected? • Fairnessand Development-What are the consequences of our common humanity?

  11. CREATING CRITERIA FOR THE PRODUCT/OUTCOME • define realistic criteria/ specificationsto measure the quality of the project’s final outcome or product • document the criteria/specificationsin the process journal • use them to assess the final outcome or productandreportit in yourPpreport

REPORTING THE PERSONAL PROJECT • a written report 1,500 – 3,500 words in the format of an academic report • electronic ( website, blog, slideshow) 1,500-3,500 words • an oral report ( podcast, radio broadcast ,recorded) 13-15 minutes • visual ( film) 13-15 minutes The report does not replace the product/outcome of the personal project Structure of thewrittenreport: • Title page, table ofcontents, bodyofthereport, bibliography or reference list, appendices

ACADEMIC HONESTY • must be your own PP • must use the academic honesty attached to the PP Guide • failing to acknowledgeyoursourcesresults in failingthe PP • if you copy someone else’s PP youwill be required to do a newone • The consequences of plagiarism and cheating are based on the school’s Book of Regulations and the Code of Conduct.

THE SUPERVISOR IS • an MYP teacherwhoseresponsibility is toguideyouandadviseyouwhileworking on your personal project • an MYP teacherwithwhomyoumeet on regularbasiswhilstworkingonthe PP • responsible for theassessment of theproject • ifnecessary some otherprofessionaloutsidetheschoolwhocouldhelp/adviseyouwith PP

PHASE 1 OF PPJune 2015 • choosea topicandsubmitthetopic to the MYP coordinatorbyJune 1st, 2015 • ByJune 3rd a superrvisorwillbeassignedandthe list of topics, studentsandsupervisorswillbeposted on the MYP noticeboardacrossfromtheMYPCoordinator's office • Beforethelastday of thisschoolyeara meetingwiththesupervisor MUST beheld-global context,planning, etch.tobediscussed

  16. PHASE 2 OF PP November 2015-RESEARCH DEADLINE • Finalize the criteria / specifications for the product/outcome • Select, evaluate and acknowledge information • Meet with supervisor on regular basis and keep record of the meetings • Keep the process journal notes /entries

  17. PHASE 3 OF PP January 2016 • Completeproduct/outcome • submitfirstdraft of thereport to thesuperviosor • Continuemeetingswiththesupervisor • Submittheprocessjournal notes/entries

  18. PHASE 4 OF PP End of February 2016 • Project reportfinaldraftdeadline

  19. PP festival, March ,2016 • Presentation /exhibition/showcase of all PPs at theSchooldayfestival • Parents, MYP4 students,otherteachers are all invited

  20. KEEPING • IN CASE YOU FAIL TO FOLLOW/ KEEP THE DEADLINES THERE WILL BE POINTS TAKEN OFF THE PP NO PERSONAL PROJECT ( FINAL DRAFT) WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DETERMINED DEADLINE !!!!!!!!
