BRAZILIAN NATIONAL BUOY PROGRAMME PNBOIA August 2004
Along the Year 1996 a special task group (with experts in meteorology and oceanography) was established to prepare the guidelines of the Brazilian Buoy Programme. In the beginning of the 1997, the final document was presented to the Pilot Programme GOOS Brazil Executive Committee and named National Buoy Programme – PNBOIA. The government at the 133rd Session of the Marine Resource Inter-Ministerial Committee on April/30/1997 approved this document. Introduction
On May/09/1997, during the 2nd Extraordinary Session of the Executive Committee for the GOOS/Brazil, PNBOIA became an activity of the GOOS Brazil Pilot Programme and it was created the Buoy Subcommittee to develop the buoy programme. The Diretoria de Hidrografia e Navegação (DHN) received, from the Ministry of Navy, the responsibility to coordinate all the actions concerning PNBOIA’s development. After DEC271999 the Centro de Hidrografia da Marinha (CHM – Brazilian Navy Hydrographic Centre) took over the DHN’s technical tasks and is now in charged of the Programme. Introduction
PNBOIA supports coastal mooring and drifting buoys. The purpose is to collect data to support the requirements of the national meteorological and oceanographic centers to sustain operational and scientific activities. It represents Brazilian counterpart on international buoy programmes as ISABP. Introduction
