2. Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant Every 15 seconds someone dies of suicide. Suicide is the 2ndleading cause of death for college students. Student veterans and GLBTQ students are high risk groups. At UWF, we’ve lost 9 male students to suicide in the last 2 ½ years.

3. Goals and Objectives The overall goal of the grant is to decrease suicide attempts and completed suicides among students by increasing: Training to students, faculty and staff Collaboration among campus/community partners Help-seeking among students

4. QPR Gatekeeper Training Question, Persuade, Refer Easy to learn, 1 hour training Will train at least 80 faculty, staff and students a year as gatekeepers Trained 11 faculty, staff, and a student to be Certified QPR trainers on campus

5. Student Organization Network Students for Suicide Awareness To Write Love on Her Arms Student Veterans of America Gay Straight Alliance Coordinate suicide prevention awareness and education on campus

6. Social Marketing Campaign • Three unique posters displayed on campus each semester • Posters encourage help seeking, dispel suicide myths, and encourage students to reach out to each other • 2012-2013 poster will focus on student veterans and GLBTQ students

7. Suicide Prevention Coalition Initiates strategic planning, policy development and reviews, develops and evaluates procedural guidelines regarding suicide prevention and crisis response Links various suicide prevention activities by bringing together interested individuals and representatives of involved organizations
