  1. Forward meeting Phone July 19, 2004

  2. Agenda: • scope of "talks" between various parties-matthias and others?plans for meeting in Aug 18-19 -RKS • review of NSF plans-Ken and all • Status and plans for studies-Wed • Beam test-wei • status of projects • NCC - edward • mu-trig-?

  3. Potential New Collaborators: • 1) Dave Cawall mutrig+NCC • 2) Atsushi may be interested in working on B tagging. ***RKS*** • 3) Yajun Ma ** XW ** • HERMES. /Compass • EdKin Contact and MGP-letter

  4. Crucial Overall steps (Matthias, Edward) • a) in 2 weeks (July 26) we will know more about the muon trigger funding possibilities. **NS** • b) **MGP** and **NS** will decide about the mu-trigger technology choices. • c) EdKist will do a more careful cost estimate in 2 weeks for 1 NCC with no gamma/pi0 detector. • d) **RKS** will work out an argument for the uniqueness of the NCC proposal

  5. NSF proposal (ken) • There will be an ongoing exploration of (so far) UIC(**MGP**), Colorado(**EdKin**) UCR(**KNB**), and ISU?? as the lead institution.

  6. Physics/Simulations (Wei) • There are several studies - one by NS, and another by Sean Kelly which look at the muon tracking resolution at high pt. In particular, how far up in pt can one tell the sign of the muon? • **NS** will tell us where his is. (done) • **RKS** will find the other. • **WX** (maybe recruit Dave Cawall, Yajin Ma) • Is hadron punch thru and decay muons a problem for the muon trigger • Can the NCC help via an isolation cut? Is it necessary? • How and what is necessary to solve the muon pattern recongnition problem in Au-Au? • How well can we do deltaG with jet, photon (with detector response) • Can we trigger on B's using the NCC+mu trig • In whatever final mu-trigger scheme we pick, how well are we immune to beam background?

  7. Other • Institutional Responsibilities: • This will follow as more of our decisions are clearer and as we understand who will be part of our effort. • Planning R and D and Construction. • One the NCC side, EdKist believes he has a reasonable idea for a great deal of this. • Integration Issues • Much of this is for the NCC. Ed Kistinev together with MGP will begin to worry about this. • Next meeting: • Same time – Wei please set it up • A crucial one – I will be in Northern CA, but on the phone
