Is chemical warfare harmful to the environment? Diya Fu & Elizabeth Phung Period 4
Outline • what is chemical warfare? • How is it harmful? • What can we do to help and prevent these cases?
What is chemical warfare? • Chemical warfare is warfare and associated military operations using the toxic properties of chemical substances to kill, injure or incapacitate an enemy. • Chemical warfare is different from the use of conventional weapons or nuclear weapons because the destructive effects of chemical weapons are not primarily due to any explosive force. • The chemical weapons are classified as agents and are put in order depending on how they affect the human body.
How is it harmful? • The chemical weapons are made using toxic properties of chemical substances. • The weapons kill by attacking the nerves and/or blood depending on the class of the agent. • The agents stay in the air only for a short time but they can still harm a living organism.
What can we do to help and prevent these cases? • We can’t do much when the chemicals are already in the air but we can prevent the usage and creation of new agents. • We can also continue to study them so we can identify the potential dangers. • We can also write up reports on them and hopefully ban these dangerous weapons of mass destruction.
Summary • Chemical warfare and chemical agents are both extremely harmful. They are used to kill large groups living organisms in wars in a minamum amount of time.
