PHYLUM PLATYHELMINTHES Planaria sp. Kingdom : Animalia Phylum : Platyhelminthes Order : Tricladida Family: Dugesiidae Class : Turbellaria Genus : Deugesia Common name : Flatworm
General Morphology Of Planaria gut epidermis mesenchyme neoblasts rhabdites
General physiology • Triploblastic (3 layers). 0.5 to 5 cm long. • Unsegmented and flattened dorso-ventrally top to bottom • Respire/excrete by diffusion. • No body cavity other than gut. No anus. • Rhabdoids: Cells that produce mucus and poison for prey immobilization/predator deterrence. • Neoblasts: Small, ameboid like cells that initiate regeneration of lost parts. • Hermaphrodite: contains both female and male sexual structure
Platyhelminthes as parasites • Most platyhelminthes are endoparasites, living within the bodies of many types of animals. • They do not kill their host in order to obtain nutrients; instead, they feed off the living tissues or absorb nutrients within the body of the host.
PHYLUM NEMATODA Ascaris lumbricoides sp.Kingdom : AnimaliaPhylum : NematodaClass : SecernenteaOrder : AscarididaFamily : AscarididaeGenus : AscarisCommon name : Roundworm
General physiology • Reach 30cm in length • Triploblastic, bilaterally symmetrical, cylindrical, unsegmented. • Covered flexible, thick cuticle, which is shed as the worm grow. • The body cavity ois a pseudocoelom formed by the fusing of vacuoles in the mesoderm layer. • Have through gut which allows food to be continuosly processed • Heterotrophic • Reproduce by sexual reproduction • Dioecious : The sexes are separated.
