Litter In NYC by Eva Haber
Litter In NYC When you litter, it is bad for the environment, but it is bad for many different reasons. One reason is, is that plastic can go into the ocean, and the sea life can eat it and dies. Another reason is since trees need to be in a clean healthy area, and there is trash in the soil, it is not good for the trees. Also, when people smoke, they tend to throw the cigarette butt anywhere on the street, and it just stays there. It’s not biodegradable. It isn’t just dirty and gross, but it is bad for the atmosphere. Do you know how much is littered each year? According to statistic brain, fast food-33%, paper-29%, aluminum-20%, glass-6%, plastic-2%, and other-2%. That is a lot of garbage. The average American throws 4.5 pounds of trash away. According to the clean air council, during 2009’s international coastal cleanup, the ocean conservancy found that plastic bags were the second-most common kind of waste found. According to environmentalist everyday, litter cleanup costs the U.S. almost $11.5 billion each year. By littering, the U.S. has to pay a lot of money just to cleanup what you could have littered, for you, just to keep your city clean. If you litter, then you are just making your city more and more dirtier. You should stop littering.
