Mr. Bear’s Radiation Plan Traditional RT for Nasal Tumors • These are images from Mr. Bear’s radiation plan. Radiation dose is depicted as a color wash (red/orange = high dose, green and blue = low dose). • This image from his CT (CAT) scan shows a cross-section of his head, with his nose pointing to the left. • In the upper picture, you can see what his radiation plan would have looked like before we got the Novalis. The bottom image is from his IMRT plan. You can see that the dose delivered to the roof of his mouth (black arrow) and his skin (white arrow) is much lower in the IMRT plan than in the traditional RT plan. The difference is subtle, but makes a huge difference to the patient! These differences translate to fewer side effects than ever before possible. At the same time, the tumor is outline in magenta, and receives the same dose in both radiation plans – which is a good thing! • Keep checking back in with us…as we treat more cases, we’ll have more fun pictures to share! Last day of IMRT • Our entire team was involved in treating Mr. Bear. Here is a picture of him with Dr. Matt Arkans on his 18th and final day of IMRT. As you can see from the picture, he has no visible side effects from radiation therapy!
