  4. Extended Power Outage, March 28, 2013 Identified Gaps/Needs/Issues There are still groups/populations missing from this planning table. Children/Pediatrics Chronic Health Populations Transportation Providers (Public/Private) Communities that Fall in the Grey Area Between Access and Functional Needs and Medical Needs Media Volunteer/Voluntary Agencies, VOAD, COAD Community Based Organizations First Responders

  5. Extended Power Outage, March 28, 2013 Identified Gaps/Needs/Issues Preparedness is the responsibility of EVERYONE. More work needs to be done at the local level to promote and encourage personal preparedness. HOAs, Community Orgs, Faith-based Orgs, City/Municipal Leaders MUST be engaged to change the “culture of preparedness.” Licensed care facilities, group homes, child care and schools must develop or evaluate their plans. Training will be key.

Extended Power Outage, March 28, 2013 Identified Gaps/Needs/Issues Identifying access and functional needs communities or individuals who will require services in a disaster remains a HUGE CHALLENGE. A&F community is reluctant to self identify to first responders, emergency managers. Registries, HIPPA, Privacy Laws, etc., still divisive issues Organizations/Agencies that hold information are reluctant to share. More educational training regarding A&F communities needs to occur w/ first responders, EM, etc.

  7. Extended Power Outage, March 28, 2013 Identified Gaps/Needs/Issues Huge dichotomy between Urban and Rural Communities in preparedness, outreach and response. Trust issues are a major factor in Tribal communities, Migrant populations and Immigrants. Communication issues will exist with or without power. Transportation will and remains a HUGE problem. What’s the threshold for “acute medical needs?” Will our systems like Reverse 911 work as intended? Feeding operations need to be evaluated if they will meet the needs of the whole community.

  9. Extended Power Outage, March 28, 2013 More conversations, more dialogue, more engagement and continued diversity in our planning process will allow us to collectively begin to tackle these questions. REMEMBER
