Who is teaching my child?!? • Mr Chris (Shrubsole) - Ms. Jobelle Rovera - Ms. Liz Monserate • Krista Mcinnis – EAL teacher • All students that may need additional English language support are assessed by the EAL team at the start of the year. Once their proficiency level is determined, students will receive EAL support during their homeroom Literacy block and/or in an additional pull-out session during Arabic.

Academics: Language • Reading: • ‘Read to’ models reading using read-alouds • ‘Read with’ supports reading through guided reading • ‘Self read’ to practice independent reading abilities • What is the purpose of at-home reading? • Spelling: • Word Sorts help students learn how language works • Makes learning fun • Writing: • ‘Write to’ models traits of writing • ‘Write with’ supports writing through shared and guided writing • ‘Self write’ to practice writing strategies

Library • THE LEARNING COMMONS (previously known as the Library!) • Students will go to the Learning Commons once a week for book selection • Students will receive lessons with Ms. Betty Turpin based on the focus of Literacy and Units of Inquiry as necessary.

Supporting Learning at Home • Nightly homework • Reading – record books read in reading journal • Spelling – Sent out Day 1, books returned on Day 10. • First week back - Whole class lists. • Optional math homework online – IXL • Unit of Inquiry Homework • One per unit • Project based • No Busy Work

Nuts and Bolts • School Times • Drop off and pick up – Drop off in the gym starting September 18th. • Please label everything… sweaters, hats, water bottles • P.E. • Dress in PE gear on PE and swimming days (5, 6, 7, 10) • Food and parties • Allergies • Invitations • Sleep… very important to be prepared for school. • 10-11 hours each night for students aged 7-12
