2. Introduction to Pediatrics • A pediatrician is a doctor that works with children, I chose this career because I have always wanted to be a doctor but I wasn’t real sure what type. Later, when I realized I loved working with children I knew that I would love to be a doctor who worked with children. I researched it and I found that there is more need for doctors such as sociologist, pediatricians, and physicians.

3. Nature of Work • Providing care from birth to early adulthood, pediatricians are concerned with the health of infants, children, and teenagers. They specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of ailments specific to young people and track their patients’ growth to adulthood. Like most physicians, pediatricians work with different health care workers, such as nurses and other physicians, to assess and treat children with various ailments, such as muscular dystrophy. Most of the work of pediatricians, however, involves treating day-to-day illnesses that are common to children—minor injuries, infectious diseases, and immunizations—much as a general practitioner treats adults. Some pediatricians specialize in serious medical conditions and pediatric surgery, treating autoimmune disorders or serious chronic ailments.

4. Working Conditions • Have a high level of social interaction. Are greatly responsible for the health and safety of their patients and the people they supervise. Work as part of a team providing care to patients. Communicate with medical staff and patients daily by phone and in person. Work indoors a lot, Work more than 40 hours per week. Work on the weekends and nights when on call. Must be very exact and accurate in performing their job. This is very important because very serious mistakes could risk patients' health. Repeat the same physical and mental activities, especially when performing exams. Make decisions on a daily basis that substantially impact patients and their families.

5. Training, Qualifications, and Advancement You need to complete four years of undergraduate courses at a college . Then, if you want to become a doctor, you need to attend 4 years of Medical School. You will need recommendation letters from your teachers. During the 4 years in the medical school, you are expected to pass USMLE. During your fourth year, you need to apply to residency programs. This way, you will be a general pediatrician, but if you want, you may specialize in another branch in pediatrics.

Uses of Technology in Career • Scales~ to weigh a patients weight • Sphygmomanometer~ to check a patients blood pressure • Thermometer~ to check a patients temperature • Stethoscope~ to listen to a patients breathing, or heart beat • Otoscope~ to examine a patients ear canal, or eardrum • Ophthalmoscope~ to examine a patients eye

9. Summary • I still would love to have this job, there are some flaws but it is a good job, where I can do what I like.
