  5. School types according to the Education Law – School Act (No245/2008) kindergartens primary schools gymnasia secondary specialised schools conservatoires art schools language schools schools for SN kids state schools - majority schools owned by church private schools

  6. The education and training in schools is carried out according to the educational-instructional programmes (EIP). STATE (EIP) - defines compulsory content of education for obtaining competences + the frame of curricula SCHOOL (EIP) issued by the headteacher upon having discussed it in Pedagogical Board and School Council fundamental and differentiating doc.

  7. Compulsory subjects at general secondary school Slovak language and literature Foreign language I, II Physics, Chemistry, Biology History, Geography, Civics Ethics/Religion Maths, ICT Psycho-social training Art and Culture Physical and Sports education

  8. Yearly, weekly and daily timetable 5 days a week 6 lessons a day on average (á 45 min.) 5/10 min.break after each lesson from 8 a.m. to 13:30 (the earliest at 7:10) class size – 30 pupils 2 terms – 1st half-year - from Sept. to January 2nd – from Feb. to June holidays – July, August, one week in spring, two weeks around X-mas, 2 days autumn/Easter and one day off after the first term

  9. Grading system and evaluation At primary and secondary schools: Marks from 1 to 5 (1- excellent, 5 – failed) based on tests, presentations, homework, oral performance, ... (throughout terms) School reports at the end of each term Universities - A to FX scale

  10. MATURITA- school leaving exam • Written external part – Slovak, Maths & foreign language (in March) • Oral exams - 4 compulsory subjects (Slovak, foreign language + two electives)+up to 3 voluntarily taken s. (in May) • School leaving exam (maturita) certificate

  11. Financing of public/state schools • The expenses are covered through public funds – made from the state budget, municipality budget and budget of higher territorial units + contributions, funds for rent, income of enterprising activity • Normative contribution (number of pupils) • Educational vouchers – for extra-curricular activities or special-interest education

  12. Teacher´s salary (gross) • 1st year of teaching – 509€ • 2nd year – 561€ • Pay rise every year depending on the qualification gained (1st and 2nd atestation) • Maximum – at retired age - 857€
