  2. Ghetto • an impoverished, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged residential area of a city, usually troubled by a disproportionately large amount of crime • A quarantined section of the city where the Jews were forced to live during WWII Germany.

  3. Forced Migration A general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development projects.

  4. Migrant: A person who moves from one country or place to another • Types of Forced Migration: • Conflict-Induced • Forced to flee because State authorities can not or will not protect • Development-Induced • Compelled to move as a result of policies and projects implemented for developmental purposes • Disaster-Induced • People displaced as a result of a natural disaster, environmental change or human-made disaster

  5. Types of Forced Migrants • Refugees • Asylum Seekers • Move across borders in search of protection • Internally Displaced Persons • Forced to flee because of war, human rights violations but they stay within the countries borders • Development Displacees • Environmental and Disaster Displacees • Smuggled People • Moved illegally for profit • Trafficked People • Moved by deception or coercion for exploitation
