  1. Pump Jet Ejector Cheryl Clark Math and Engineering Teacher Victoria East High School Dr. Cable Kurwitz, Nuclear Engineering

  2. Research Project • Gather Experimental data for two-phase flow of a jet ejector pump • Two phase flow is difficult to characterize • Use experimental data

  3. Jet Ejector Pump

  4. Day 1: Lesson Plan August, 2011 • Pretest • Also ask Students to bring 100 pictures October, 2011 • Present my E3 research using Poster and Powerpoint • Discuss two-phase flow • Demonstrate two phase flow: Use a coke

  5. Day 2: Pixel Face • Take a picture of their own face • Upload • Magnify • Count how many pixels wide and long in their face

  6. Before and After Magnification

  7. Two Phase Flow • Give students pictures of two phase flow; each group gets a different picture • Use Transparency overlay of graph paper to represent pixels • Mark gas as white and liquid as black • Students count and calculate fractions of liquid and gas and do a mass balance for the jet

  8. Two Phase Flow

  9. Day 3: Labview Front PanelHistogram, Threshold, Invert

  10. Labview Back Panel

  11. Day 3: Picture Mosaic • Download free Andrea Mosaic software • Create a mosaic from their own pictures

  12. First choose a picture for the base

  13. Set Mosaic Parameters • Mosaic size and resolution • Tile size and duplication • Pattern • Color change • Tile variants • Etc.

  14. Create Mosaic Ooops! Pixels are too big. Change parameters and try again!

  15. Smaller Pixels are a Tradeoff

  16. Class Project • Choose a type of Engineering, • Bring 100 pictures • Take a class picture • Create a mosaic for marketing

  17. Pre/Post Test • When sampling an image spatially, the sampling rate might have units of ____________. • pixels/cm Answer • pixels/sec • cm/pixel • pixels

  18. Spatial quantization refers to the process by which we assign • the number of pixels in an image. Answer • the frame rate of a movie. • the shape of the pixels in an image. • the numbers assigned to each pixel.

  19. A picture that has many small details would need to be sampled with • a large pixel size. • a high spatial sampling rate. Answer • a high bit quantization level. • a low bit quantization level.
