GIPI • In august 2001,it was created the Interministerial Group for Intellectual Property, discipline its composition and functioning, and other measures. • The Interministerial Group for Intellectual Property - GIPI, the allocation of proposed government action to reconcile the domestic and international policies aimed at foreign trade in goods and services relating to intellectual property and, in particular:
GIPI I - will provide subsidies for the policy guidelines of IP; II - proposed planning coordinated action of bodies responsible for implementing this policy; III - express in advance on the standards and laws of intellectual property and related topics; IV - indicate the technical parameters for the bilateral and multilateral agreements on intellectual property;
GIPI V - subsidies on intellectual property for the formulation and implementation of other government policies; VI - to promote inter-ministerial coordination in matters to be dealt with by GIPI; VII - consult with the private sector on intellectual property; VIII - investigate and report matters relating to intellectual property.
GIPI - GIPI is chaired by the President of the Chamber of Foreign Trade and integrated by representatives of the following bodies of the Federal Public Administration: I - Ministry of Agriculture and Supply; II - Ministry of Science and Technology; III - Ministry of Culture; IV - Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade; V - Ministry of Justice; VI - Ministry of Foreign Affairs; VII - Ministry of Health; VIII - Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic; IX - Ministry of Environment; X - Ministry of Finance, and XI - Strategic Affairs Secretariat of the Presidency.
GIPI • The National Institute of Industrial Property - INPI will be heard whenever the matter is their sphere of competence. • May be invited to participate in meetings of GIPI representatives of other public authorities and people of public knowledge. • GIPI act in plenary meetings, and provided, where necessary, the establishment of thematic sub-groups.
GIPI • GIPI will be Executive Secretary of the Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, who shall designate the Executive Secretary. • The formulation and implementation by the public authorities, by law or international commitments concerning intellectual property should be assessed in advance by GIPI.
Civil Society • REBRIP: http://www.rebrip.org.br • Working Group (GTPI in portuguese): • activities that includes international agreements related to the issue of intellectual property in various fora (WTO, FTAA, MERCOSUR / European Union, WIPO), the relevant legislation, the negotiating position, the Brazilian National Congress and the executive. The degree of intervention varies from mere monitoring with a view to obtaining information to specific proposals to amend national legislation and international negotiations in progress.
