  2. So Many Books…So Little Time • For busy people the Online Book Club would deliver books electronically. • Monday through Friday, the Library emails subscribers a portion of a book.

  3. Reading is Fun! • You can also forward the emails. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends and family and promote reading.

  4. Check it Out! • If you like a book, check it out from the Library. • Each week the Library would feature new books.

  5. How does it work? • Each Monday through Friday a short portion of a selected book, beginning with chapter one, will automatically be sent to your email account. Each day’s portion is approximately five minutes worth of reading, covering two to three chapters by the end of the week. Each week a new book is started. • If you would then like to continue reading any of the titles, you can obtain a copy of the book by placing a hold on the title via the Washoe County Library Systems online library catalogue, or by visiting your local library branch. • You will be sent a chapter via email each day for EACH club that you join and may unsubscribe at any time.

  7. Common Questions • Do I need a valid Library Card to join? • Not to join the Online Book Club, but you would need a library card to borrow books. • Why read only part of a book? • Some people are interested in seeing what a book is like, before obtaining a full copy. Others are so busy they don’t feel they have the time to read.

  8. More Questions…….. • Does the Library have each featured book? • Usually. The Library is advised in advance which books will be featured and try to have copies in the system • How do I join? • Go to www.DearReader.com select the books you wish to read, and enter your email address.

  9. About DearReader.com • DearReader delivers library services like book excerpts, newsletters and reader discussions for pennies a day using the latest internet and email technology. What started out as a way to get people in the habit of reading, has turned into a comprehensive marketing tool for libraries. Today, more than 3,000 public libraries use their services. • The services are customized so they appear to be part of your library's website. The local Library receives all the credit, while DearReader.com does all the work.

  10. Connecting people • Multiple audiences are targeted, in order to reach all library patrons, including teens, seniors, visually impaired, shut-ins, and people who don't visit the library.

  11. Services Supported • The services support Friends of the Library and their efforts to increase membership, recognize volunteers and raise money for the library.Increase traffic to the website and encourage patrons to use other online services. These services require virtually no library staff time.

  12. Lively Discussion Groups • Readers can click on links in their daily emails and join in a lively discussion with readers across America. Authors will often join the discussion.  The forums are moderated by the staff at DearReader.com so once again, there's no extra work for library staff.

  13. Who pays for this service • The service is free to library customers. This service is on a subscription basis paid by the library for its customers. The service is also funded by the commissions DearReader.com receives on books purchased by readers via DearReader’s bookstore links. If you prefer to purchase a copy of a title, rather than borrow a book, you might consider purchasing the book through www.DearReader.com
