Legislation • 2014 Primary Mathematics Instructional Materials Adoption • AB 1246 authorizes SBE to adopt instructional materials for Grades K-8 aligned to CCSSM by March 30, 2014 • SB 1200: Modifications to the California Additions to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and Model Courses for Higher Mathematics Adopted
Mathematics: CA Modifications to CCSS • Adopted by State Board on January 16, 2013 • Two public hearings on January 3 & 4, 2013. One at CDE and another at Orange County Office of Education • Education Code (EC) 60605.11 (b) (3, 4, 5) • one set of standards per grade level • Algebra I based upon CCSS for mathematics • Redundant standards are eliminated
Mathematics: 2014 Primary Adoption of Instructional Materials • Approved, with amendments, components necessary to proceed • Evaluation criteria • Timeline • Application for Instructional Materials Reviewers and Content Review Experts

Mathematics: Assessments • State Superintendent of Public Instruction Torlakson’s Recommendations for Transitioning to a Future Assessment System released • Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Preliminary Test Blueprints Released • SBAC Sample Items and Performance Tasks Released
