Our project aims to create a centralized database for Navy ROTC, streamlining alumni tracking and event management. Addressing the current ad hoc system, the database will provide accessibility, security, and functionality for staff, students, and alumni.

Design Project Review 1 • Meet the team • Naval ROTC Overview • Vision • EER Diagram • Project Schedule
Background • Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps • Founded in Berkeley in 1926 • Students train to become active officers in the US Navy • Located in Hearst Women’s Gym
System Organization Navy Navy ROTC Active Duty Personnel • ROTC Alumni Battalion Staff • Active Duty • Reserve Student Trainees • Retired • Deceased
By the numbers… • Approximately 90 students and staff • Thousands of alumni • Retired • Active in the military • On reserve
Non-student staff… • 2 Chief Petty Officers • Admin • Supply & In Charge of Students • 4 Instructors • Lt. Victor Garza • Contact • Instructor • Most responsibilities are delegated to students
Problems With Current System • Ad hoc system of storing information • No centralized database • File cabinets filled with folders of loose paper • Students bear many responsibilities • Keep track of who’s in charge of what
Our Vision… From and
Our Vision To
Client Requirements… • Keep track of Alumni • Donation purposes • Reunions, banquets • Problem: deceased alumni receiving invitations • Include method of extracting contact information for label making
In so many words… • The database must: • Be accessible from numerous computers • Be accessible by different staff members, students • Have some degree of security clearance
Textual Summary • The Naval ROTC consists of people, who can be split into students, staff and alumni. People receive publications (which our database will make labels for), which students are in charge of and which also are NROTC expenditures. • Students declare Chits (requests), receive grades, earn PT scores and are responsible for uniform items. Students make payments to the ROTC and receive stipends. Each student has a rank, which form a non-linear hierarchy. • Alumni often donate money to the NROTC.
Textual Summary (Continued) • The NROTC holds events at times and locations. These events use supplies and their costs show up as expenditures. A person is in charge of events. A key feature of our database will be tracking who attends events. • Supplies can be broken down into Military and Recreational. Someone is in charge of them and they are checked out by people. They also show up as expenditures.
