First Week of Teaching Practice • Welcoming trainees at school • present information about school • introduce mentors • present information about learning/teaching resources available at school • Trainees observing lessons • 2-3 lessons a day • discuss and describe lessons observed
Second Week of Teaching Practice • Trainees conducting lessons • discuss course plans, course books, assessment with mentor • write detailed lesson plans • observe peer lessons • analyse lessons with mentor and other trainees • schedule credit lessons and independent lessons • Mentor observing trainee lessons • help plan lessons • provide feedback (in journal, in feedback sessions)
Weeks 3-9 of Teaching Practice • Trainees conducting credit lessons • write plans for every lesson • select and arrange material independently • observe peer lessons • analyse lessons with mentor and other trainees • Mentor observing trainee credit lessons • provide feedback (in journal, in feedback sessions) • fill in Professional activity observation sheets for every lesson • assess according to descriptors of students’ performance
Descriptors of Students’ Performance • Personal qualities(professional attitude, voice, command of language, rapport) • Planning(clarity of aims, balance of activities, suitability of materials, awareness of FLT national requirements) • Performance(classroom management, presentation techniques, questioning techniques, mode of work, pace and timing, smoothness of flow, exploitation of materials, class dynamics, in-class feedback, ending the lesson, degree of achievement of aims) • Reflection(ability to evaluate own performance)
Other Tasks for Trainees • Conducting independent lessons (at least 12) • Filling in Self-evaluation sheets • Organising an English event at school • Attending a seminar at school • Assisting a class teacher • Performing other assignments for university (psychology, health education, pedagogy)
Week 10 of Teaching Practice • Trainees finish all university assignments • Trainees write Practice report for university • Mentors describe trainees’ progress and suggest overall evaluation • Tutor, mentors and trainees discuss Teachingpractice in meetings
