Elements • Matter is made of elements. • Elements are pure substances that cannot be broken down into any other substances • There are more than 100 elements that combine to make up all living and nonliving things. • Elements are shown on a Periodic Table.
Atoms • Matter is composed of extremely small particles called atoms. • Atoms are the building blocks from which all matter is made. • These particles are too small to be seen without a powerful microscope.
