Agenda/Topics To Be Covered The students will summarize the allies’ plans for winning the war by identifying events in the war in Europe Announcement: Chapter 17 Test Wednesday April 6, 5 paragraph essay due from video Review: Identify the Allies/Axis Powers Drill: Examine the map on page 582 and 583 and answer the following: 1. What other spot on the French coast might the Germans have expected the Allies to attack? 2. What natural geographical features of the region affected the Allied strategy in the D-Day invasion?

The War for Europe and North Africa Ch. 17 Sec.2 pgs. 578-585 The Battle of the Bulge Americans capture Aachen, 1st German city Hitler wanted Antwerp, Belgian port Americans caught off guard and driven back to create a bulge in the line-U.S. POWs slaughtered by Germans Reinforcements came and ended Hitler’s last attempt March 1945, U.S. reached Rhine River April 1945-Ike reached the Elbe River Concentration camps revealed April 12, 1945 FDR dies April 30, 1945 Hitler commits suicide May 7, 1945 Germany unconditionally surrenders May 8, 1945 V-E day
