Progressive Recommendations • ALSA will collaborate and collate datacollected on each topic and create handouts canvassing the issues and what we hope to achieve. • These handouts will provide an ideal overview of internal LSS education issues and be available online for members • You can pass these down to your new Presidents and VPs every year, ensuring your LSSs have smooth education handovers • These can also be used in submissions to your faculty – having a problem with feedback? Refer to the progressive recommendations.
Communication • Come and talk about internal education issues you’re having with your faculty/ College • By working together, LSSs should become much more effective at lobbying at an internal level • This will be particularly helpful for new LSSs, who may not have the institutional memory on hand to provide clear-cut solutions to problems that may arise.
First Meeting: Feedback & Marking Questions: • How should law schools measure learning? • How can different methods of marking foster continuous academic development? • Bell Curves/ Banded Marking: Is it desirable to have quantitative marking of qualitative assessment?
First Meeting: Feedback & Marking • How to lobby for change in assessment – exemplar submissions • Information will be provided, such as: • Statistics on what constitutions “harsh marking”; • Methods of marking; and • Options for feedback (marking rubrics etc.) • We will put forward a potential model for ALSA to endorse – this will then form part of our Best Practice Guide for Feedback & Marking.
