Questions and Answers • Any issues or • roadblocks?
One of the BiggestRoadblocks to Successful Technology Integration…
Resistance to … CHANGE
Change • To make DIFFERENT. • To take a different position, course, or DIRECTION. • To REPLACE with another. • To make a SHIFT. • To undergo a modification, TRANSFORMATION, or transition. • -Webster's Dictionary
The Speed of Change Travel 4000 BC Camel caravan 8 mph 1785 Stagecoach 10 mph 1835 Steam engine 13 mph 1935 Airplanes 100 mph 1960’s Missiles 1800 mph 1990’s Space Shuttle 17,000 mph
The Speed of Change Knowledge All Scientific knowledge that mankind had accumulated by the year 1 AD = one unit of information. 1500- Doubled to 2 units 1750- Doubled from 2 to 4 units 1900- doubled to 8 units The doubling speed has now reached every 1-2 years
“Perhaps the only person who likes change is awetbaby.”
Table Discussion What CHANGESare occurring locally, statewide, or nationally that will require you to make changes in your technology planning?
Change is about recognizing, understanding and capturing thoughts, ideas and possibilities and transforming them into actionsandbehaviors.
Change Change is inevitable…we can choose to be an active participant, to guide and shape the change or we can be a resistor, let it “happen to us” and suffer the stresses… Change is going to happen either way!
Lessons We All Need to LearnAbout Change… -Adapted from Michael Fullan
Change is a Journey Not a Blueprint "I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better." G. C. Lichtenberg
No Amount of Knowledge Will Ever Make the Future Totally Clear "Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." -John F. Kennedy
Problems Are Our Friends "The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials. - Chinese Proverb
Change Imposed is Change Opposed People don't resist change. They resist being changed. -Peter Senge
Implementation Dips are Inevitable • Expect things to get worse before they improve. • All successful schools and organizations experiencethe implementation dip.
Every Person is a Change Agent They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. –Andy Warhol
