Fall 2017 Goals • To inform use of affective domain in student learning outcomes, curriculum, teaching, professional development, & assessment in “foundations” courses in a variety disciplines. • Ensure that students demonstrate the skills, beliefs, and behaviors that lead to student success.
Accomplishments • Outlined a list of 6 areas of “best practices” to inform use of affective domain (cross disciplinary). This stuff is juicy!
Accomplishments • Requested, received, & analyzed PRIE data with regards to the foundational classes (first 30 units students experience at the college). • Identified possible “foundations” classes: • ENGL 100/105/100 • MATH 120/200 • COMM 110 • HIST 201 • BIO 130 • ECON 100 • ESOL 400 • BUS 100 • PSYC 100
Accomplishments • We have clear goals for Spring 2018: • Taking into account the our list of best practices and PRIE data ->Spring 2018 work with the goal of piloting a “Foundations CoP” in Fall 2018. • Coming back to this. Hold your horses for our “Moving Forward” slides.
Challenges • Finding available faculty and staff • Sometimes intermittent attendance by those who could commit Lots of ongoing projects & many work teams -> folks are busy!
Successes • We had many. Yeah!

Successes • Remained on track with regards to our overall goals and timeline. • We did this by: • Setting clear goals • Establishing and communicating meeting times and dates (at the first meeting) • Starting each meeting with a clear objective • Dividing tasks & having timelines • Proactively seeking team members • Creating an online house for all team members to access (a shared Google folder) • Starting with true inquiry
Moving Forward (Longer Term) • We would like to run a pilot: • When: Fall 2018 • Who: Instructors teaching the “foundations” courses (ENGL 100/110/105, MATH 120/200, COMM 110, HIST 201, BIO 130, ECON 100, ESOL 400, BUS 100, PSYC 100) • What: 1 semester of reassignment time for curricular redesign & foundations CoP (with possibility of extending CoP another semester) • How: Reassignment time for creating curricula, piloting practices/lesson plans, and meeting with Foundations CoP • Why: Start small and practice what we preach
