How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluating stages?
We used various different technologies throughout our media project which helped me to experiment with the different technologies and to express my ideas in a more interesting way. • A few examples of the technologies which I used throughout this whole project are: Wordpress, Indesign, Final cut express, video camera, camera and lighting.
During our planning we also looked at other short films which were on the BBC website. • This enabled us to analyse the common codes and conventions which are used in short films (one developed character, narrative structure, playing with the audiences expectations and catalyst) so we could apply them to our own short film. • We also picked one short film which we had to analyse in detail, and I picked a short film called ‘Shelf Life’ where I used a video camera to film myself analysing the short film which I then uploaded to my blog.
I also used a site called Prezi, which is a presentation website which allows you to present your work in a more visual and creative way. • You can choose any design you want which displays your work in the best possible way. • I used this website to answer a few questions when I was planning my media product and also in my evaluation. It is completely different from a power point presentation, and I found it was a much more interesting method of presentation.
On the previous slide we are able to see that there is a screen shot from my Word press blog, which is where I put all my work on. • We used this blog from planning the ideas for our short film, analysing other short films, our story boards and all the preparation for our short film. And also post production where we analysed audience feedback and conducted our evaluation. • I found using this blog was a much more interesting way of working, and was much easier to keep track of what work was completed due to its easy and visual layout.
The previous slide shows a screenshot of Final Cut Express. This is an editing programme which I have used to edit my media product. • It is a very useful programme which easily enables you to edit your footage, and to add in non diegetic sounds and special effects. • We also used this programme to add in text, non diegetic sound to build up suspense and tension.
We also used a programme called In design which is what we used to create our film review and poster. • I have never used this programme before, so it was quite challenging to get used to. • However, it has various of techniques where you can apply different effects and can easily add text where I found it easy to visualise how I wanted my final outcome to become.
Here is the video camera which we used to capture our footage for our media product • The zooming in and out function enabled us to easily create tension in our short film by zooming into key characters or objects we wanted to draw attention to • Its also easy to use, and we also used a tripod to create shots where we wanted the scene to be as steady as possible.
The lighting we usedwas extremely helpful when shooting our short film. • All of the very beginning of our short film is taken place outside, before the burglar manages to break into the house. • However, because we filmed this at night, when it was very dark, we found it difficult to capture our footage. These lights allowed us to film our short film easily, and also created shadows which added to the suspense and tension which we were trying to create.
