  2. Redressal Mechanisms • At local village level • At taluka level • At district level • At State level • At level of the Supreme Court.

  3. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL • First , Conscientize the people and unify them on the issue.

  4. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL….. • Make use of local weapons at hand: complaint Books and Visitors Books.

  5. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Make sure of your rights. Go as a group to the ration Shop / person concerned and refuse to move until you get your just demands. Women are better at this job.

  6. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Meet the sarpanch as a group and ask him to take up the matter with respective Authorities.

  7. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • There are local committees which are supposed to monitor certain schemes: Vigilance committee, Mata Committee, School Committee. Get the committee members to become active.

  8. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • If you belong to a hamlet which is not represented in anyway, form a committee of your hamlet. The Indian Constitution gives us the right to form associations.

  9. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Write a joint complaint to the officer concerned and send it by registered post.

  10. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Bring up the issue at the Gram Sabha – question officials / ask for information and clarifications.

  11. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Social audit is an important part of the Gram Sabha. Local government and semi government authorities have to be present at the Gram Sabha.

  12. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • To be able to take action against unsatisfactory clarifications by officials at Gram sabhas: Make sure that that the relevant poins are entered in the Proceedings Book. You can apply for extracts from the Proceedings Book. Complain to CEO.

  13. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • Form a Study / Core Group consisting of people who are interested in the development of the village.

  14. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • This group must be met regularly, taught the Rights Based Approach, motivated, fed with information and reading material.

  15. AT THE LOCAL VILLAGE LEVEL ….. • It would be the task of this group to give direction to the developmental activities of the village. The group should comprise • 1-2 elderly people who are much respected in the village and whose word has weight. • 3-4 educated active people. • 2-3 youth leaders. • 50% should be women who have the confidence of the women

  16. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL • Identify the Duty Bearer. Make sure which officer s reponsible for the redressal of the complaint.

  17. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Make sure of what your rights are and which rights have not ben given to you. Prepare a written complaint with details, with as many signatures as you can get.

  18. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Produce documentaty proof where possible.

  19. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Make use of the right to information to get indisputable evidence .

  20. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • After a reasonabe period if there has been no reply, ask for reasons for delay by making use of the right to information. Demand to know what action is taken against errant officers according to the rule? When you may expect a reply?

  21. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Give publicity in the local papers to your grievances and actions taken by your village.

  22. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Meet the Officer concerned in a small delegation. Threaten a morcha if just grievances are not redressed.

  23. AT THE TALUKA LEVEL …. • Responsible Officers: • PDS, Antyodyay and Annapoorna, : Taluka Supply Officer, Tehsildar • Family Benefit Scheme, Pension Scheme: Tehsildar • Mid Day Meal Scheme: Education Officer, BDO. • ICDS: CDPO, BDO. • Maternity : Medical Officer at the PHC, BDO. • NREGA: Tehsildar

  24. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL • Identify the Duty Bearer at the district level: Resident Collector, Officer – in -charge of the NREGA or Asst. CEO responsible.

  25. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL….. • Take your complaint to Collector and ensure that it is registered in the Complaint Register ordered to be maintained by the Supreme Court. The Collector is supposed to reply within 15 days.

  26. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL….. • Meet the Collector on the Lokshahi Day – Grievance day. (Normally held once a month)

  27. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL….. • If no response, make use of the right to information.

  28. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL….. • Give publicity to all your action.

  29. AT THE STATE LEVEL • Complaint to the Advisor and ask him to take necessary action.

  30. AT THE STATE LEVEL…. • Complaint to the Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies department, Mantralaya

  31. AT THE STATE LEVEL…. • Final Complaint to the Chief Secretary who is responsible to the Supreme Court.
