  2. Music video • In the music video they are all wearing black and have tattoos, this is typical of the rock genre. • The video cuts between performance focused and a random narrative. There are a lot of rock videos that are like this, where the narrative showed on the screen doesn’t go with the song and has nothing to do with the song. • most of the videos from queens of the stone age are similar in nature. The narrative of the video has little to with the song. The video is not conventional, which means it is not what we expect to see happen in the video. • The video does, however, follow the usual codes for a rock video. The band members are usually dressed in black. The people in the video are usually dressed in black too. • This shows that the band do use certain codes to attract a certain target audience, they use unconventional methods. They try to bring variation to the genre to make them stand out from the other bands, but wear certain colours so they are still associated with the genre.

Website • At first glance the website doesn’t look like a website for a rock band, except the background colour which is black, there are other bright colours that you might not expect to see on a rockbands homepage, colours like red and pink and yellow and blue. • This is another example of how different this band are from others, they are a ‘supergroup’ basically meaning that that the yare made up from members from other well-known bands. • However people that visit the site will be familiar with the band anyway and are familiar with the style of music that they play. • However people that just hear the name and want to find out more may be a bit mislead by the site. But that shows the confidence the band has in thir own image and music.

  6. CD cover This is definitely not a typical CD cover for a rock band, it is brightly coloured and has sans-serif font. It shows the bands confidence in there own music that they can produce a CD cover so different and be able to sell just as many records because their name is so well known. Everyone who is in to this style of music knows who they are, and knows their style of music. The characters on the front look like they are sharing some drugs too, which is also associated with the band.
