PROJECT : KELAR WATER TREATMENT PLANT BY : GAGAH PERKASA CONSULTANCY SDN BHD
Basic Information: • Proposed area: Pasir Mas district • Area covered of 577.52 km² • Current population of 110 135 people • Population estimation on 2040 is 167,134 people • Water demand, 73 MLD
Aeration • Definition: Aeration involves bringing air or other gases in contact with water • Purpose: 1. To alter the concentration of dissolved gases- CO2 2. To oxidize suspended metals. 4. To reduce taste and odor.
Design: Circular cascade aerator • widely use in water treatment plant system in Malaysia • involve a series of steps over which the reclaimed water can flow and aerate before entering the creeks • mainly for gas transfer, such as removal of carbon dioxide • visually pleasing appearance
Coagulation • Definition: is a process of adding chemicals to water to collect particulate matter and colloids into flocs that can be removed from the water by sedimentation and filtration. • Chemicals added: • PAC: act as coagulant • Lime: to increase pH value & remove water hardness
Coagulant • PolyAluminum Chloride (PAC) Why choose PAC? -lower dosage requirement -shorter flocculation time -smaller amount of sludge -higher quality of the treated water. • Lime Usage of Lime? -to counteract with lower pH (adjust pH)
Flocculation • Definition: Flocculation is a mixing process in which these particles (floc) are brought into contact in order to promote agglomeration. • to induce particle growth from very small suspended particles to larger heavier flocs that settle out by gravity.
Sedimentation • Definition: is a process to settle down solids from water through gravity settling. • Design: inclined shape that having: • Lamella plate used to collect the floc. • Hoppers: located at the bottom of clarifiers, to collect & remove sludge.
Filtration • Definition: Filtration is used to separate non settleable solids from water by passing it through a porous medium. • Design: • Filters : rapid sand filter using dual media • Backwash system • Underdrain-collector of filtered water & as a distributor of backwash flow.
Disinfection • Mainly used to inactivate/ destroy any pathogens • To reduce unpleasant smell & odor • Chemicals used: • Chlorine
Storage • Definition: Treated water is kept in the clear water tank and then pumped to the elevated tank. • Purpose: • 1. To provide longer contact time for disinfection. • 2. To provide system pressure to force treated water through distribution pipelines.
Buildings in WTP • CHEMICAL BUILDING • Tank and silo for lime storage • Tank for PAC storage • Tank for polymer storage and dilution • CHLORINE BUILDING • Chlorine cylinder
SLUDGE BUILDING • Thickening tank • Recovery tank • Dewatering unit • ADMINISTRATION BUILDING • Office • Laboratory • Electrical panel • Pantry and etc.
WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM EPANET
Safety Future at Purposed Water Treatment Plan The safety future is important for designing the purposed project. Based on the safety future, the water treatment plan can be operated at optimum condition and avoid any damage
Gas Scrubber Gas scrubber are cleanings installations in which the gas flow is brought in intensive contact with a fluid which as aim to remove gaseous components from the gas to the fluid The location for gas scrubber is at the chemical house. The purposed of the scrubber to avoid the concentration of the chemical to became high due to any leakage for the chemical.
Storage Tank For safety the addition 500,00 m3 finished water ground storage tank to provide more reliable service during times of peak usage and in emergency situations. Besides that, providing an emergency power generator to maintain water service, even during extended power outages. Finished water storage and conveyance is the backbone of supplying treated water to customers. Failure of storage and conveyance facilities would have a major impact on customers
Backflow Prevention Devices Utilities have routinely practiced backflow prevention on industrial and commercial facilities that pose a risk to the domestic water system. Backflow-protected purposed for protect systems and avoid damage to the system and equipment.
Economic Evaluation Fixed cost = RM 2 169 727, Variable cost = RM 991 887 Total production cost = RM 3 161 614. Total sell = RM 4 608 098 Water price = RM 0.63/m3
Conclusion Based on the proposed design, we ensure the design will follow MWA standard and; produce and provide good treated water quality based on WHO standard.
