  1. JUMP START You should be working to complete the PRE TEST you were given as you walked in. It is a PRE TEST, so there will not be a grade! Show me what you already know or don’t know!

  2. WHAT IS GEOGRAPHY?

  3. LOCATION asks “Where is it?” • Absolute Location – the exact position of a place on the earth EX. North Ridge is located at 7332 Douglas Lane. (latitude/longitude) • Relative Location – the position of a place relative, or in comparison, to another place EX. North Ridge is located beside North Ridge Elementary on Douglas and Starnes.

  4. PLACE asks “What is it like?” • What makes this place unique? Think about a fingerprint. • No two places in the world are exactly alike. • This could refer to population, landforms, soil, etc. EX. What kind of area is our school located? Rural? Suburban? Businesses, plants, weather? landforms?

  5. HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION • How have we changed the environment to meet our needs? • How has the environment forced us to adapt in certain conditions? THINK CHANGE!

  6. MOVEMENT Communication • How does information move from place to place? Migration • How do people travel to and from school? • How can people move within the school? • How do supplies get to school?

  7. REGION • Region – an area with parts that have similar characteristics or traits EX. The area around our school is likely to be part of many regions. What does North Richland Hills have in common with a local city like Keller or Watauga?
