Introductions • 16th Year Teaching • Education • Bachelors from Eastern Illinois University • Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from North Central • 51 Graduate hours past Masters • Grew up in Owego – Went to East View Elementary, Thompson Jr. High and Oswego High School • Wife Cheryl, daughter Molly (4 1/2), son Mason (14 months), dog Bella (8) • Live in Oswego and pay Oswego taxes • Have been at Plank since the school opened

  3. Curriculum Units • Quarter 1 • Measurement, Sci. Method, Earthquakes and Volcanoes • Quarter 2 • Light, Earth and Moon • Quarter 3 • Classification, Simple Organisms, Animals • Quarter 4 • Plants, Ecology, Scientists and Careers

Expectations • Students should be bringing home materials every night to study • The night before a test for an hour is not going to work • Students need to stay organized to be successful • Have a dedicated place for science materials • Use Take Home Folder • It is the student’s responsibility to check their grades, ask for assessment retakes, and get absent work • Grades are posted every Monday, Home Access • Retake request forms are located in classroom • Absent work is located in classroom, on website, Homework Hotspot

  5. Things You Should Know • Unit tests are every 3 to 4 weeks • We have online textbooks • Website for online textbook, http://my.hrw.com • Students should have their usernames and passwords taped into their take home folders • Homework Hot Spot, Home Access, and Website are great tools • I send out group emails every few weeks to keep you updated

  6. Grading / Redo Request • 5% Classwork • 5 % Listening and Speaking, Exit Questions • 15 % Reading, Anything out of a book or article • 15% Writing, Lab Reports • 60 % Performance, Tests and Quizzes • Students can request to retake any test using the school wide Redo Request Form
