News Room House Rules • Journalists must always attribute to the original source and possibly put a link to the story • Always be objective and write the story as it is, declaring interest where necessary • Double check your story to ensure accuracy of facts; check your facts against the sources • Keep evidence of all interviews used e.g. emails, phone calls, texts etc. • Ensure that all parties involved are represented in the story and indicate where efforts to reach one of the parties failed • Ensure that all pictures used depict the story as it is-never out of context; always caption your pictures • Journalists should have both professional and personal accounts and use them carefully • When dealing with controversial issues, Only comment when confident with facts in your response • Seek superior advice on contentious stories before publishing
