Is Hand washing really Effective? A simple experiment was done to confirm the effectiveness of handwashing. Hand impressions of healthcare workers before & after handwashing with an antimicrobial product were placed on blood agar plates and incubated overnight. Results show that handwashing removes up to 95% of the transient microbial load from dirty hands.
When do we need to do hand-washing? • Between patient contact • Before donning and after removing PPE • After contact with any respiratory secretions • After removing of mask • After leaving the isolation area • Before touching your personal items • Before meal breaks
