  4. Why are employability skills so important? In a competitive and fast-moving global economy, graduates need to stand out to get the jobs they want. Graduate selection procedures are tough and there are large numbers of applicants for each vacancy.

  5. What are the skills we need?8 of the most important are:

  6. Verbal CommunicationCommunicate properly others! Effective speaking, active listening, empathy and building rapport, personal appearance and body language.

  7. Teamwork! Working confidently and cooperatively within a group.

  8. Problem solving and critical thinking! 1. Plan 2. Research, 3. Analyze, logically think through steps, 4.Work through to 5.Solve the problem.

World of Commercial Awareness! • Commercial awareness could be summed up as an interest in business and an understanding of the wider environment in which an organization operates: its customers, competitors and suppliers. • It might also encompass understanding of the economics of the business and understanding the business benefits and commercial realities from both the organization's and the customer's perspectives.

  10. Generally it includes awareness of the need for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, customer care and a knowledge of the market place in which the company operates (current economic climate and major competitors, for example)
