  3. PLASTIC IS NON-REACTIVE • Unlike metals plastics do notreact with water and air hence do not corrode easily.

  4. Hence used for storing various kinds of materials like chemicals, fooditems and pickles.

  5. PLASTIC IS LIGHT, STRONG AND DURABLE • It is therefore used for making buckets or mugs of different shapes and sizes which are generally cheaper than metals.

  6. PLASTICS ARE POOR CONDUCTORS OF HEAT AND ELECTRICITY • It is used for making covering of electricalwires, handles of screw drivers and handles of frying pans.

  7. USES OF PLASTICS

  8. Used in packing tablets, threads for stitching wounds, syringes, doctor’s gloves and surgical instruments.

  9. Used for making special plastic cookware for microwave ovens.

  10. Teflon is used for making non-stickcoating for utensils.

  11. Uniforms of firemen have fire proof coating of melamine.

  12. BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL • Material which gets decomposed through naturalprocesses such as action of bacteria. • Example: plants and animal waste, paper, cotton wood.

  13. NON-BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL • Material which is not easily decomposed by natural processes. • Example: metals articles, plastic bags.
