50-year media related career • worked as a news reporter, cameraman, news editor, TV program producer, head of TV news, controller of TV and Radio program services and other senior executive positions in major media companies in Hong Kong and overseas • In 1961,worked as a news editor at AFP’s (Agence France Presse) Hong Kong Bureau, covering China as well as editing and distributing world news
During the employment with The News Corporation Ltd. • included General Manager of International Development, News Limited, Sydney, Managing Director of the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong and the CEO of News Asia Development Limited
Other senior management positions • Worked in Rediffusion Television (RTV), the first cable pay – TV station in Hong Kong; Network Ten, Australia; Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB); and the first Pan-Asian satellite broadcaster Star-TV • The founder and former President of the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) – the leading professional organization of the industry with over 200 members including CNBC, CNN, Star-TV, Bloomberg, Asia Sat and Scientific Atlanta
Other senior management positions (cont’d) • In the 80s, appointed by the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) President, Anthonio Samaranch, as a member of the Inter-Union Group of Experts on Olympic Matters and served as the head of Asia Broadcasting Union’s Olympic and FIFA World Cup Operation Group • an expert member of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Bid Committee, responsible for bringing the Olympic Games to the Chinese Capital
Teacher • first teaching assignment was in 1972, taught “Television News” at the School of Journalism at the then Baptist College • After thirty four years, since January, 2006, teaches four Master degree courses – “Introduction to Media Management”, “Communication Technologies & Media Organizations”, “Sports & Media” and “Public Administration and the Media” at the Baptist University
Education background • a graduate of the Chung Chi College, a constituent college of the Chinese University of Hong Kong • post graduate studies at the Syracuse University, New York and the Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, U.S.A
Among the international & regional charity organizations • board members of the Hong Kong Community Chest, the Hong Kong Hospice Care Society and ‘Make-A-Wish’ Foundation International • a lay member of the Hong Kong University/Queen Mary Hospital’s Institution Review Board from 2000 to March 2007 • a former adviser of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; and the Vice-chairman of the Government’s Committee on Performing Arts
Hobbies • an avid tennis player • swims in the sea every day since the late sixties
