3. Aldehydes and Ketones Each contains a C=O (carbonyl) group. Aldehyde: Contains a carbonyl group bonded to a hydrogen; in formaldehyde, the simplest aldehyde, the carbonyl group is bonded to two hydrogens. Ketone: Contains a carbonyl group bonded to two carbon atoms.
