  2. GLOBE District Mission Statement: To construct, maintain and manage the state transportation system in the Globe District, to meet or exceed the expectations of our customers. Snow Mission • Keep the roads open and safe during snow storms. • Clear the roads of snow efficiently and safely. • Maximize use of limited resources for winter storm events.

  7. Challenges in Managing Snow Operations 1. Legal – Showing when & where we plowed and applied chemical. 2. Public Relations – Showing the public in real time, when & where we’ve plowed and applied chemical. 3. Reviewing our storm operation for improvements. 4. Maximum efficiency with our limited resources. 5. Storm scheduling issues – Crews, Plows, Routes, and Materials. 6. Operator safety – Many areas without radio coverage.

  9. MRM Definition Mobile – An “on-board”, near real-time solution Resource – Trucks, People, Data Management – Utilizing information collected above.

  10. MRM for Snow Operations Project will eventually deploy 30 MRM units with cellular based communication devices in plows across the Globe District in 2 phases. Key Goal: Determine potential value added for equipping entire ADOT snowplow fleet w/ MRM units. Duration 12 Month ATRC Funding $125,000 + Globe’s $60,000 Total Program $185,000

MRM for Snow Operations Phase 1 • Consisted of FORCE America DATA Commander installations in 12 current trucks with existing SSC5100 controllers (COMPLETE) • Partnering with the Equipment Shop, installs and fabrication was performed internally producing $11,227 in labor cost savings. • Started 12-11-2007 ~ Finished 4-1-2008 • Total Labor hrs = 538.5 • Total Cost $ 34,544 • Avg Labor+Parts per - $2601 • Avg Labor per unit - $2080 • Avg Parts Cost per Unit - $520

  12. MRM for Snow Operations Phase 2 • Consist of FORCE America DATA Commander AND SSC5100 controller installations in 16 current trucks with existing Dickey-John and Raven controllers (31%) • 5 trucks complete - • Total Labor hrs = 453 • Total Cost $ 29,352
