  2. Project Objectives • Assess the usefulness of podcasting for library professional development • Deliver educational content such as the Medical Informatics Grand Rounds to faculty and staff • Provide secure podcasting of medical school course lecture audio recordings to faculty and students

  4. Timeline and Setting • Timeline • May 1 to August 15, 2005 • Setting • Dahlgren Memorial Library, the Health Sciences Library at Georgetown University

  5. Sponsor and Participants • The project was sponsored by the National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship Program • NLM associate fellow, four librarians, education services associate, curriculum support specialist and the academic technology and internet development coordinator

  6. Resources • The Library’s existing streaming server was used to distribute course medical lectures • The university’s Web server on which the Library's Web site is hosted was used for testing the podcasts

  7. Podcasting Among Library Patrons • Survey • iPod and portable digital audio player usage • Results • approximately 48% of Library users have a portable digital audio player • approximately 64% of those have an iPod

  8. The Project • Can Georgetown University and Dahlgren Memorial Library meet the technical requirements to produce standard and secure podcasting?

  11. Secure Podcasting • Set up secure podcasting using the university’s LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) • Created RSS feeds • Podcasts were accessible using iTunes by subscribing to the RSS feed
