3 Responsibilities of the Informative Speaker • To say something worth hearing (sound information). • To say something that can be heard (clear organization). • To say something that will be heard (audience engagement) Lect 4F
Organization WHY?--an experiment. Divide your group into Subgroup A and Subgroup B. Each group will observe some pictures while the other covers its eyes. Then the observing group will write down what they remember seeing. Finally, we'll compare: which subgroup remembered more? Lect 4F
Which subgroup recalled more? Why? Were there exceptions? Why? What does this have to do with your speech organization? Lect 4F
Patterns of organization See the textbook pp. 207-217 for the 5 main patterns of organization. Basic principle: you should be able to say why your points are organized 1-2-3, and not 2-3-1! Lect 4F
